Over a decade of MIAMBE clinical research
11 publications, 296 patients

MIAMBE has been comprehensively researched and documented. Since 2005, 11 clinical articles were published, documenting the results of 296 cases.
The first clinical feasibility trial was published in 2006 with 24 patients. 95.8% of the patients completed the initial procedure successfully. In 2007, a procedure report documented 36 procedures. 100% were completed successfully and implant survival rate after 6-8 month was 97%.
A comprehensive multi-center registry was published in 2009, with 112 patients enrolled. Primary procedural success was achieved on 109 patients (97.3%) and secondary success was achieved on all patients. Implant survival after 6 months was 95%. Safety results were also very good. Procedure time and ease were also monitored.
All these trials and case studies lead to the conclusion that MIAMBE balloon sinus lift is safe and a valid, minimally invasive alternative to other methods of maxillary bone augmentation.

    A localized maxillary sinus floor lift was conducted using MIAMBE, through a trans-alveolar approach. With different filling materials. The ability to quantify the fluid added to the silicone balloon, permits absolute control in the process of elevation of the Schneiderian membrane. There is a direct relation between the quantity of fluid injected into the balloon and the height that sinus membrane is lifted to. Long-term results show that the implants that were installed during these procedures are firmly attached.

    A combined surgery was performed at Wilhelmina hospital in Assen, Germany by myself together with Dr. Lodewijk Gründemann (MSc Periodontology), Dr. KoosTimmenga ( Maxillo-Facial surgeon) and Dr. Rannyvan Weissenbach (ENT surgeon). Besides an endoscopic concha correction, we also conducted a minimal invasive sinus elevation with MIAMBE. The sinus floor was successfully perforated 4x (without a rupture of the Schneiderian membrane).During drilling with the MIAMBE burs at least 1.5 mm lift of the membrane was observed. During membrane release with the MIAMBe curette, a clear lift of the membrane was noticed. The sudden unfolding of the balloon was well received by the membrane; without an increase of the volume at that moment an ongoing release of the membrane was observed during 10-30 seconds. Due to the distance between the oeteotomies (7-8mm) the membrane lifts fused together.
